The Kedzie Center’s team of clinical psychologists, social workers and psychiatric practitioners approach treatment as a collaborative and comprehensive effort, partnering with clients to identify treatment goals to create an effective and meaningful therapeutic plan.

Psychotherapy/Counseling

At The Kedzie Center, we aim to provide a safe space, by providing confidential and empathic care. Within this frame, therapy is guided by the initial concern that prompted the individual or family to seek treatment. Areas of concern may include emotional distress, relationship issues, work or employment stress, grief and loss, major life transitions, adjustment issues, behavior problems, acculturative stress, and exposure to trauma, abuse or violence.

Therapy can be brief in nature, allowing for an exploration and resolution of the presenting concern. Treatment can also be long-term, with a greater focus on seeking to understand the internal and interpersonal dynamics at play in one’s life. How therapy is structured and scheduled is part of the ongoing collaboration between therapist and client. Based on an initial assessment, recommendations are made for individual, family and group therapy for children, adolescents and adults. Services are available in both English and Spanish at this time.

Psychiatric Services

When indicated, The Kedzie Center may incorporate psychiatric assessment, consultation and intervention into treatment. Psychiatric services are one component of the comprehensive and coordinated care provided at The Kedzie Center; medication management is not available as a stand-alone service. Psychiatric services are available to enhance or make possible participation in other therapeutic services provided at The Kedzie Center.

Community Resource Coordination

The Kedzie Center recognizes that the source of an individual’s distress may be related to or exacerbated by a difficulty accessing assistance in other areas of life, such as affordable child care, housing, or specialized mental health care. Community resource coordination services are available to support individuals in identifying and accessing available and necessary resources. As a community provider, The Kedzie Center aims to form strong and meaningful partnerships with other service providers in the area, in order to enhance the coordination of comprehensive quality care for clients

Community Engagement and Education

As part of our prevention and early intervention focus, The Kedzie Center aims to serve as a resource to existing organizations serving the North River community. To this end, we offer outreach and educational services to community members and partner agencies, to enhance mental health awareness, knowledge, access and response among members of the community. These services are provided in the form of education workshops, community nights organized around special topics, parenting education, and support groups based on the needs of our clients.

Presentation topics may include enhancing general mental health awareness and knowledge of mental illness, strengthening relational and coping skills, stress management and self-care, support life transitions, enhancing awareness of the impact of trauma, diversity training, violence prevention, conflict resolution, and restorative justice practices. The Kedzie Center recognizes that the needs of the community vary across the North River area and is committed to being responsive to the needs of our community partners.
